BREAST LIFT

Breast lift or mastopexy, as it is also known, is a surgical procedure in which the breasts are placed in a new position, through incisions that allow me to remove the skin and excess breast tissue from the breast. With this procedure, the adjacent tissues are hardened and the breast is firmer, so that the lower crease of the breast and the position of the areola and the patient's nipple are within their normal limits.

Before performing the intervention, an assessment is carried out to determine which incision will be used with the patient: around the areola, in the lower half of the breast or in her breast fold. These incisions depend on how sagging the breast is and the amount of skin that needs to be removed so that the nipples are just the right size and not on the bottom of the breast.

The incision around the areola is made when the breast sag is grade I, that is, the breast is slightly below the breast groove and this does not require further removal of breast tissue.

The incision in the lower half of the breast is necessary when the patient has grade II ptosis; the breast is below the breast groove and the projection of the nipple is downward. In this case, the patient needs a greater relocation of the breast tissue and, above all, remove the excess skin.

The incision in the breast fold is suitable for patients with grade III ptosis. When they have a very saggy breast and with the nipple projecting downward, they require much more skin and breast tissue removal, in order to regain the shape of the breast and make it firm.

For the three clinical cases, the use of breast implants may be needed, but this decision is made in the consultation together with the patient, the surgical plan is discussed. This is important because there are cases where the introduction of breast implants is not necessary: in the first instance, because the patient does not want breast implants and in the second instance because with the patient's own breast tissues, I can restore firmness to the breasts. .
