FACIAL FILLERS AND BOTULINUM TOXIN

FACIAL FILLERS

Are highly sought-after treatments thanks to their low-damage and low-invasiveness. They involve injections of fillers, generally substances already present in the body.

Facial fillers are the best solution for both treating wrinkles and restoring volume to the face. Interestingly, this treatment eliminates sagging skin thanks to a remodeling effect. It's also minimally invasive, allowing the patient to go home after the session.

The use of filler materials allows us to use techniques such as facial restructuring to bring youth and beauty to our face, without significant changes in shape or volume. In other words, they restore a fresher appearance and maintain natural expressions.

However, remember that before undergoing any facial filler treatment, it's necessary to consult a specialist about your skin's condition so they can recommend the most appropriate procedure that best suits your needs.

How do aesthetic fillers help improve your face?

The passage of time causes facial fat to be reabsorbed and also affects facial bone structure, reducing its structure.

This versatile technique is capable of restoring lost volume to the face, perfecting its contour while repairing both fine and deep wrinkles and preventing sagging in the face, neck, and décolletage. It contours the face by lifting the cheekbones and enhancing the lips, while restoring the skin's much-needed firmness and elasticity.

The result is natural without altering the features, only attenuating wrinkles, correcting asymmetries, and restoring volume.

Ultimately, these aesthetic medicine treatments rejuvenate and revitalize the skin to give a more natural appearance to the cheeks and cheekbones and eliminate both wrinkles and furrows that contribute to facial aging.

Who are these treatments for?

Although facial fillers can be applied to people of all ages, they are designed and aimed at correcting the effects produced on the face due to the passage of time.

Typically, a study of the skin's condition (photoaging, depth, sagging, and contour) is performed to determine how the product should be applied and achieve the greatest possible patient satisfaction.

The main objective of this treatment is to achieve beauty through naturalness, providing a healthy and relaxed appearance for a youthful face.

What types of facial fillers are common?

There are different types of fillers that have been approved by the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs.

Hyaluronic acid.

It is a natural component of the human body's tissues, forming part of connective tissue, the umbilical cord, the vitreous humor (or hyaloid humor), synoval fluid, blood vessels, and cartilage. It is a polysaccharide of the glycosaminoglycan type (or mucopolysaccharide) that has a structural function. That is, it is part of organic structures that attract and retain water.

It also plays an important role in the fundamental amorphous substance of the extracellular matrix and is an element found in joints and cartilage. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for reducing, strengthening, and rejuvenating the skin. At high density, it can correct deep wrinkles and redefine the facial contours.

Calcium hydroxyapatite.

It is a component that stimulates the skin's own collagen, formed by unique microparticles of calcium hydroxyapatite. The main element is the same as the biocompatible mineral substance found in bones and teeth.

It is used for hand rejuvenation and nasal reshaping, especially to improve the profile of the nose.

Polycaprolactone.

It is a biodegradable aliphatic polyester that is also used today in aesthetic medicine (for example, for nasolabial folds, also known as the "happiness lines" that appear on both sides of the mouth).

It is a collagen stimulator used similarly to a dermal filler, restoring lost volume and creating new collagen. It can be applied to the entire face, especially where more restructuring is needed, in one or more sessions spaced one month apart.

When are the effects noticeable and how long do they last?

The effects of these treatments are immediate thanks to the speed with which they are absorbed into the skin, achieving greater elasticity and a more positive appearance. However, you must be patient and wait about 48 hours to see the full final result. Depending on the patient's age, the area applied, their skin, and their lifestyle (diet, smoking, exercise), hyaluronic acid usually lasts between 9 and 12 months.

One of the most positive aspects is that it can be performed at any time of year and has few side effects. However, regular sessions are recommended to monitor progress and assess the patient's condition.

BOTULINUM TOXIN

Is a purified toxin used in aesthetic medicine to temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for wrinkle formation. When injected into specific areas, Botox blocks the nerve signals that cause muscle contraction, smoothing wrinkles and preventing the formation of new expression lines.

It is especially effective for treating dynamic wrinkles, those formed by repetitive facial movements, such as frowning or smiling.

How is Botulinum Toxin treatment performed?

The procedure is simple, quick, and virtually painless. It consists of microinjections into the specific muscles that cause wrinkles. The treatment is customized to each patient's needs, ensuring a natural and harmonious result.

The treatment typically lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the areas being treated. Results begin to be noticeable between 3 and 5 days after application, and the full effect is seen after approximately 10-14 days.

Common areas for Botox application

It is a very versatile treatment and can be applied to different areas of the face to achieve a comprehensive rejuvenation effect:

Forehead: Horizontal forehead lines, caused by eyebrow lift, are considerably softened.

Between the eyebrows: Vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines) are often a major aesthetic concern and respond very well.

Crow's feet: Wrinkles around the eyes, which appear when smiling or squinting, are significantly reduced.

Mouth and lips: Botulinum toxin can also be used to correct fine lines that form around the mouth (barcode lines) and to relax the muscle that causes the corners of the mouth to droop.

Neck and décolletage: In some cases, botulinum toxin is applied to treat muscle bands in the neck or improve the appearance of the skin on the décolletage.

Benefits of Botulinum Toxin for Facial Rejuvenation

It offers multiple benefits for those seeking to improve the appearance of their skin without undergoing invasive procedures:

1. Effective wrinkle removal

It is one of the most effective treatments for smoothing dynamic wrinkles. It relaxes facial muscles, which eliminates or significantly reduces expression lines, leaving skin smoother and more rejuvenated.

2. Prevention of new wrinkles

In addition to smoothing existing wrinkles, it also acts preventively. By relaxing the muscles responsible for repetitive facial gestures, the formation of new expression lines is prevented, keeping the skin youthful for longer.

3. Natural results

One of the most common fears of those considering this treatment is having a "frozen face." However, at Dr. Escariz's office, we ensure that the results are subtle and natural. The goal is to maintain your facial expression intact, but without the wrinkles that make it look tired or aged.

4. Fast procedure with no recovery time

Botulinum Toxin treatment is very fast and does not require anesthesia. After the session, you can resume your daily activities immediately. You may experience slight redness or swelling at the injection sites, but these effects are minimal and disappear within a few hours.

5. Non-invasive and safe solution

This is a non-invasive treatment, meaning it does not require surgery or a long recovery time. It is also a safe procedure backed by decades of use in aesthetic medicine.

6. Temporary but long-lasting results

The effects typically last between 3 and 6 months, depending on each patient and the area treated. Since this is a temporary treatment, it allows for adjustments in future sessions to maintain or improve the results, offering flexibility in facial aesthetic care.

Post-Treatment Care

Botulinum Toxin treatment does not require any recovery time, but it is important to follow some recommendations to ensure the best results:

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area during the first few hours after treatment.

Avoid strenuous physical activity for the first 24 hours.

Avoid exposure to heat sources (such as saunas or hot baths) for the first 24-48 hours, as heat can affect the distribution of the toxin.
